Thursday 14th June

Just Carolyn and I for this mornings adventure. We were meant to start at 6:30 but talked our guide into 7:30. It was meant to be a 3 hour drive and we drove for 2:30 hours with next to nothing when we suddenly came across 6 lions who had just made a kill and were happily pulling the antelope apart. Sat there quite a while watching them eat.

Then over the next hill and 8 lions stalking buffalo. This was great watching them move forwards 2 metres then just sit for a while, another couple of metres then sit again. Looked like it was going to be a long process so moved on. Then our driver decided to get the car bogged in a muddy creek crossing. Front wheel two foot of the ground. It would not have been a real problem except there were 3 lions within 20 meters of us just watching. That wonderful roof for viewing was still open. Knowing they are meat eaters I decided I would do my best impression of a vegetable. After 15 minutes the lions did move on and another vehicle came and dragged us out. Lions do not like turnips. Now we know what prey feels like being stalked. Past where the previous kill was and the vultures were having a turn. Great 5 hours.

Lunch and another rest. 4pm afternoon safari, Lion and elephant but very tame Safari after this morning.
