9:30am departure to Mount Kenya Lodge. 2.5 hour drive and nearly all sealed road, easy. Drive to near top of mountain and it is considerably cooler. Lodge is made of wood Boomerang shaped around a water hole. 4 stories high with roof top viewing area. Arrived and there were a number of waterbuck there to greet us. They got bored of us and water buffalo soon came to replace them.
To our delight later on 15 Elephants came and hanged around for our entertainment.
Sun went down and it got so cold the water buffalo had fury ear muffs on.
Not sure if it made the news down under but the secretary of defence and two of his people died in a chopper crash a few days before. 60 government dignitaries were meant to be having a conference at the lodge but it was postponed as the funeral was today. So this massive lodge had Carol, myself and a Japanese gentleman as its only guests. At night the lights are on over the water hole. We found ourselves waking a number of times over the night and checking out the window.
