Tuesday 19 June

Time for a break from the animals, today we start our journey to the island of Zanzibar.
Drive to Nairobi airport from Mount Kenya.
All good road and only 4 hours. This was to be a boring day of transit.
We got to the centre of Nairobi, traffic bad as usual but then a thumping big black policeman stepped in front of the land cruiser and 5 seconds later an even bigger black policewoman. They jumped into our car and said our driver was under arrest and we and the car were impounded.
So we were directed to the central police station and parked with the impounded vehicles while our driver was carted inside.
A lot of shifty dudes in that carpark, all of a sudden being surrounded by lions did not seen too bad.
I knew I was wasting my time doing another vegetable impersonation as vege's are what make them so big and shifty.
What seemed a long time was about 12 minutes when our driver returned, apparently the u-turn we did was illegal. Driver said he was happy to be jailed but the police had to pay for all the changes in our travel plans as we were running late for our plane. Police told him to be on his way. So we made it to our plane to Zanzibar. Plane left 45 mins late, probably an ex qantas pilot. 9:30 before we landed and 1 hour drive to our beach resort on the east coast of the island. Late dinner but felt we had to eat something as they kept the restaurant open just for us. Last night it was 5 or 6 degrees, tonight about 28. Body doesn't know what hit it.
