Sunday 10 June

So today is to explore the crater, from the rim you drop 600 meters and from rim to rim it is about 120 km across. Inside is a number of small permanent lakes.

Started of quiet, but soon we finally saw the last of our big 5, Rhino. Although they were a long way from the road and lying down. So off we went, saw a stack of vehicles all stopped together so went and investigated, wow 3 big male lions lying on the road. After a while we drove past them slowly and they decided to walk next to us, it was sensational and got some great pictures.

All of us excited as if we had opened the window we could have scratched him under the chin. As we calmed down we thought we would go back and see if the Rhino's had moved.
Yep they were up and moving and one of them towards the road, so we parked in his general direction. It was great as the closer he got to the road obviously the better the cameras shot. Before we realised it he was only 30 meters from the car and all of a sudden he was agitated. He started to charge us, my quick thinking cut in and I thought no point both of us dying so I moved behind Carolyn. The driver was frantically trying to start the car. I screamed at Carolyn "take the last photo when you see the white in his eyes". Which she did (photo attached) She is good. Apparently it got to about 2 meters of us before we pulled away. Scared the pants off us all. What’s that bad smell?. Our driver has been driving for 10 years and this was a first for him. Rest of day seemed quiet.
