Tuesday 5 June

Pickup at 8:00am. And we think Sydney traffic is crap. Nairobi has just as many cars and trucks but no road rules and pedestrians selling wares between the cars.
Still that is why we have a little driver. Little prop plane to Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Straight line 35 mins but we fly around Mount Kilimanjaro so it is actually a 45 min flight. There was snow on top of the mount, very spectacular. Easier seeing the top of the mountain from a plane rather than climbing the thing, silly thing is there is nothing there when you get to the top (wonder why they climb it then). More customs and more visa applications but any way drive for another 2 hours to Arushu.

Good news is they checked out travel clinic docs for valid yellow fever jabs, I would have hated to get them for nothing.
Lush country side, little towns where locals do it hard. Quite a few Police stopping vehicles for random checks, we were stopped for about 30 secs. Fortunately they did not recognise me and said move on.
Lots of corn and Bananas growing, many goats but what was not expected a lot of Donkey's. Motorbikes everywhere.
Unbelievable the load the woman balance on their heads including large a mounts of bundled grass to be fodder for the cattle.

Not sure of population of Arusha but it is not all that big. Our hotel is famous as it is where John Wayne and crew stayed when filming Hatari. Ooops half you kids probably cannot remember that coming out. Big film in its time.
So do you know the exact half way point between Cairo and Cape Town......It is a clock in the middle of a round-about just outside the hotel, and it is a Coke Clock....Magic. Not much else to see in Arusha, understand why there is no city tour.
